Sitting

April 5, 2016

My friend Melanie spoke at a retreat last week on “a quiet and gentle spirit.”

She told me that “quiet” is derived from an old usage “to sit in a chair.” That I did not know.

I’ve had to do a fair amount of sitting this past week after back surgery – not at 90 degrees – but sitting still.

Reminds me that Pascal said most of our human troubles come when we can’t sit still in a room by ourselves for an hour.

Yesterday for fifteen minutes I watched a tiny yellow inchworm inch, literally, for a couple of yards across and up our stone patio wall into a flower pot.

I suppose Pascal might approve!

Should we all sit a while longer? Maybe just with the Lord? And look and listen?
