Sunday Extra – May 01, 2022
Sunday Extra today comes from Jim Singleton in a sermon he preached during Holy Week at the chapel at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. This was his final sermon in that sanctuary before his GCTS retirement and launching into more service with LFM. The text comes from Genesis 50. Listen as he weaves in illustrations about his own life as well as Leighton Ford’s.
The sermon includes themes of being attentive to what God is doing in our lives. Leighton has been the master teacher of those themes in recent years, and all of us in LFM try to help pastors and pastor cohorts learn these same lessons. See this week if you can recognize what God might be doing in your own life.
How You Can Pray
LFM led a visioning retreat for a Transforming Church Cohort in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, this weekend. Together with Church United and CityChangers Movement, we help eight churches collaborating to reach and serve South Florida. As you see several of them pictured below, please pray for them. They face complex challenges from COVID, facility needs, staff resources, as well as several of them working bi- vocationally.
Here’s a snapshot of one of these ministers. Danny Slavich (pictured sitting) and his wife Laura sensed God calling them to start a new church, something they talked and prayed about since before marriage.
In the summer of 2017, God made it clear He was opening the door for them to plant a new church in Laura’s hometown of Lighthouse Point/Deerfield Beach. Since then, they’ve stepped out in faith to follow God’s call. Danny also serves as an adjunct professor, having recently earned his Ph.D.
Today, please pray for Danny and Laura, that the Lord will “equip them with all they need for doing his will. May he produce in them, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen” (Hebrews 13:21 NLT).
